The ingredients listed are elote (yellow corn), cold water, cinnamon, sugar, and salt. You blend the corn, water, sugar, and salt together and then boil until the corn is cooked (at least 10 minutes). Then sprinkle the cinnamon on top and serve hot. The elote corn might be a bit different from standard yellow corn, but I imagine it'd taste good regardless!
I think that regular yellow corn (i.e. canned or frozen) would work. Definitely corn, not cornmeal. The best would probably be to go to a latino grocery store and look/ask there. I imagine that when Mayans make this they use corn straight from the husk...
This is a Salvadoran (EL SALVADOR in central America) hot drink made from sweet corn. We drink it usually in the afternoon or you can have it anytime you want. It's delicious! You should try it.
This drink is delicious. I have a friend who's Cuban and knows how to make it. She adds cinnamon sticks to boil with the corn and instead of sprinkling cinnamon on top of this drink she cuts small pieces of Salvadorian or Dominican frying cheese, which is a bit saltier than most cheeses, but it gives it a great taste. She also makes it thicker, not so much as a drink but more like a sweet creamy soup. And YES it definately has to be fresh corn white or yellow, but not frozen, canned, or cornmeal. Thinking about it makes my mouth water. Good luck making it and I hope you enjoy it as much as I get to, not often enough.
what's in this?? i'm intrigued!
