falafel & eggplant sandwich


Some recently rediscovered food porn from the summer: an amazing loaded falafel sandwich from Paris's Rue des Rosiers (aka falafel street)
falafel, hummus, cucumber, lightly pickled red cabbage, melt-in-your-mouth fried eggplant, and tahini
Perhaps the best falafel in the world? (something I don't say lightly...)

  3. Judging by that photo, I'd say you have a pretty strong case for world's best falafel. I love it when it's heavy on the veggies like that. There's a place in Williamsburg that has falafels like that, with plenty of salad and pickled cabbage and other goodies.
    I have to mentally file this away if ever a trip to Paris should come up!

    i honeymooned in paris in 2003 as a vegan, and i ate at least five of those falafel et aubergine sandwiches at this very place in the jewish quarter. and, YES, it is the BEST falafel i have ever eaten. i'm not quite positive it's completely vegan. that dressing was awfully creamy, and there was a mess of creamy cabbage loaded into the bottom. i suspect a little yogurt. at any rate, it was fantastic.

I had the best falafel of my many years of falafel consumption, from New York and Tel Aviv, to Paris and Beirut, in a new vegan eatery in Montreal, the Green Panther, at 66 Rue St. Viateur in Montreal's trendy Mile End neighborhood, run by a young Israel vegan. He claims his "secret recipe" was handed down to his grandmother from the late chef of Israel's best falafel joint in Rechovot. Whatever its origins, it is the perfect falafel in every respect.
