a catalog of ordinary and extraordinary vegan foods
i wish they used veggie pork here! my fave banh mi place closed down (co yen - the yellow-signed one) for some unknown reason.. so now i can only pick from the remaining 3 on spadina. they all use tofu and don't have as many options as co yen had :(.. co yen had tofu pate, tofu chunks, seasoned seitan (the 'buddha') or the vegetable mix.
p.s. for the entries you cook yourself on here, you should include the recipe. :)
p.p.s. pssst.. you spelled banh mi wrong! :) - the n goes before the h
The veggie pork was good, but I actually prefer it with tofu I think (like in Toronto). Most of the recent recipes aren't my own creations, except for the cereal, but that should be pretty simple to replicate :)But I'll always include a link if I have a recipe, or anyone else can add a recipe or link if you know of one. I do have a recipe, however, for an adapted version of bahn mi, southern US style.
josh- you're famous for vegan desserts. where are they?! i need the chocolate chip banana bread recipe!!! and help me out on zucchini bread!!and also, as per the banh mi- toronto may have the cheapest, most international vegan eats on the planet, but boston chinatown's vietnamese sandwiches (washington street) are the champion.
ah word.here's josh's other site. answered my own "comment".http://www.linesofflight.net/food/desserts/bananabread.htm
i tried to make veg pho the other day and it wasn't very good this time - too bland! but trial and error is good. now i know i have to be patient and let the damn thing simmer for awhile, even if all it is is stock and spices!
