vietnamese hoagie

a "vietnamese hoagie" in Philadelphia (elsewhere know as a Vietnamese sub or banh mi): a french baguette filled with veggie pork, pickled vegetables, shredded carrots, cucumber, cilantro, chili pepper, and sauce

i wish they used veggie pork here! my fave banh mi place closed down (co yen - the yellow-signed one) for some unknown reason.. so now i can only pick from the remaining 3 on spadina. they all use tofu and don't have as many options as co yen had :(.. co yen had tofu pate, tofu chunks, seasoned seitan (the 'buddha') or the vegetable mix.

p.s. for the entries you cook yourself on here, you should include the recipe. :)

p.p.s. pssst.. you spelled banh mi wrong! :) - the n goes before the h

The veggie pork was good, but I actually prefer it with tofu I think (like in Toronto).

Most of the recent recipes aren't my own creations, except for the cereal, but that should be pretty simple to replicate :)
But I'll always include a link if I have a recipe, or anyone else can add a recipe or link if you know of one. I do have a recipe, however, for an adapted version of bahn mi, southern US style.

josh- you're famous for vegan desserts. where are they?! i need the chocolate chip banana bread recipe!!! and help me out on zucchini bread!!
and also, as per the banh mi- toronto may have the cheapest, most international vegan eats on the planet, but boston chinatown's vietnamese sandwiches (washington street) are the champion.

i tried to make veg pho the other day and it wasn't very good this time - too bland! but trial and error is good. now i know i have to be patient and let the damn thing simmer for awhile, even if all it is is stock and spices!
