Burmese curry with yams & mushrooms

Burmese-style curry with yams, mushrooms, and ginger, topped with cilantro - great for a cold winter night
From Nancie McDermott's Real Vegetarian Thai (even though the dish isn't really Thai...)

I'm a recent convert to the joys of Burmese food- the flavor of the couple of curries I tried was totally different from Thai, Indian, or any other kind of curries I'd had before. Did this dish have any specialty ingredients like sour leaf? (I haven't been able to find that around here)

no super specialty ingredients, but an odd combination of flavorings - besides the ginger, the dish also called for turmeric, soy sauce, red curry paste, and tamarind. It ends up tasting a bit dry and sour for a curry, but in an intriguing way.

Thai, Burmese... I wouldn't care which country it is from if you placed that delicious looking curry in front of me!
