Canadian Thanksgiving dinner


Our potluck Canadian Thanksgiving feast. Clockwise from top: bok choy slaw, candied yams, roasted root veggies, tofurkey, apple cranberry stuffing, mushroom sausage stuffing, green beans with almonds, wild rice salad, veggie Italian sausage and peppers, mashed potatoes, Celebration Roast, and gravy! Not pictured: homemade pumpkin pie, apple crisp, and almond milk ice-cream.

Thanksgiving Dinner


Or at least as much of Thanksgiving dinner as would fit on a plate: tofurkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potato fries, stuffing, gravy, and roasted potatoes, carrots, onions, and mushrooms. Not pictured: homemade cranberry sauce, fresh veggie turkey from Whole Foods, sweet potato and pineapple casserole, green beans with lemon and almonds, apple pie, So Delicious vanilla ice cream. Sadly, our leftovers only lasted two days...

sushi boat & caterpillar


A sushi boat docked at Toronto's Sushi Island, bearing precious treasures: avocado sushi, inari tofu sushi, cucumber avocado sesame rolls, and daikon, kanpyo, and mushroom rolls (if I recall correctly).


And a caterpillar that somehow escaped from the boat, despite lugging around cucumber, mushrooms, seaweed, and yam, not to mention a hefty avocado coat.

Caribbean Vegetable Stew



From Moosewood Restaurant Cooks at Home
Saute 2 cups chopped onion in 2 Tbs veg. oil on med. heat for 4-5 min. Add 3 cups cooked cabbage and 1/4 tsp. cayenne and continue to saute stirring often until the onions are translucent.

Add 1 Tbs. grated ginger and 2 cups water, cover the pot and bring to a boil. Stir in 3 cups diced sweet potatoes, sprinkle w/ salt and simmer for 5 or 6 min. until potatoes are barely tender.

Add 2 cups tomatoes, 2 cups okra, and 3 Tbs. lime juice. Simmer until all the veggies are tender, about 15 min. Stir in cilantro and add more salt to taste.

Sprinkle the stew w/ chopped peanuts adn top w/ a few sprigs of cilantro.
